Our Story
Waawiyeyaa's origin story began a long time ago when Martin "Marty" Reinhardt would listen to his uncles play guitar in his Grandma Joy's front porch. Tom Biron is one of those uncles. Marty also loved reading Gram's poetry, which inspired him to begin writing his own poetry some of which became song lyrics. Years later during a jam session in 2016, Marty and Tom decided to formalize and organize their music into a band. They decided on the name Waawiyeyaa which means "the circle" in Anishinaabemowin. The name reflects the spirit of the music and symbolizes balance and harmony in creation. Current band members include Marty, Tom, Jud Sojourn, Danny Garceau, and Karen Moses. Tina Moses acts as the band manager. Past band members have included Joe Biron, Jeff Bailey, Keenan Colquitt, Leora Tadgerson, and Caitlin Wright. Others that have joined us over the years included Biidaaban Reinhardt, Keith Secola, Dan Zini, Annie Humphrey, Maggie Rousu, Zachary Paige, Eduardo Sanchez, Tyler Dettloff, Seth Bernard, Dan Zini, and Ronnie Ferguson.
